CCTV World Cup

CG Artist, The Future Group, 2018

A pretty interesting production, where what was supposed to be four days onsite in Beijing to help onboard a creative vendor, ended up being a 43 day scramble to ensure the safety of a month-long coverage of the Fifa World Cup for the Chinese market.

The show ran for an hour every day, and I was the primary onsite expert in charge of the virtual production engines.

My responsibilities included but were not limited to; Environment building, asset authoring, asset lookdev, performance optimization, complex camera animations, scripted events, scripted event triggers, building out operator trigger interfaces, acting as a liaison between the chinese broadcast company and the Norwegian asset team, virtual set calibration, and live on-air operations.

For the vast majority of the broadcast days, we would finalize environments and animations in the early hours of the day, and then take them live on air to over a hundred million viewers in the afternoon, often sleeping on site to be ready for the next cycle.
